Clackamas River Fishing Introduction

The Clackamas River is a tributary, about 83 miles long, of the Willamette River in northwestern Oregon in the United States. The river drains an area of about 940 square miles. In its upper reaches, it passes through mostly forested, rugged mountainous terrain, while in its lower third, it passes through agricultural and urban areas. It rises in eastern Marion County, about 55 miles (89 km) east-southeast of Salem. The headwaters are in the Mount Hood National Forest in the Cascades, on the slopes of Olallie Butte at an elevation of 4,909 feet, about 10 miles north of Mt. Jefferson. It flows briefly north, then northwest through the mountains, passing through North Fork Reservoir, then Estacada and emerging from the mountains southeast of Portland. It joins the Willamette near Oregon City, and forms the boundary between Oregon City and Gladstone. The river supports runs of Coho salmon, spring and fall Chinook salmon, and summer and winter steelhead. It is a popular destination for recreational fishing and whitewater rafting. It also provides hydroelectric power and drinking water for some of the Portland metropolitan area.

Clackamas River Fishing Techniques

Steelhead, Coho Salmon, Chinook Salmon, and Trout are all caught by fly fishers in the Clackamas river. Eagle creek is the primary fly fishing tributary for winter Steelhead. Fly fishing for summer Steelhead and spring Chinook is mostly in the main river after the water drops in late spring. Dark colored patterns work well for coho and steelhead in the low water season with brighter more flashy patterns fished deep in the winter months. An 8 or 9 weight fly rod will cover most situations here and long casts may be mandatory on this large river so bring a quality fly line. The upper river trout fishery is as typical as it gets with most common patterns such as wooly worms or buggers, bead head nymphs, hoppers, and variations of elk hair caddis all working fine throughout the season. The first warm weekend of the trout season brings a great flying ant hatch at most of the lakes in the system but trolling a woolly worm on a sinking line from a float tube is always a good choice if nothing else is hatching. Olive or black & red wooly worms fished on a 5 or 6 weight system will do the trick. You can increase your catch by twitching the fly line creating action that will entice the trout into biting. The lakes are open all year but can be snowbound in the winter and not be accessible until April or May.

Clackamas River Fishing

The Clackamas River located in Northwest Oregon Has some of the best fishing in the pacific northwest. The Clackamas River boasts large runs of Spring Chinook Salmon, Fall Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon, Winter and Summer Steelhead and Rainbow Trout. The Clackamas river has been through many changes and currently has 2 fish hatcheries to supplement the rivers fish runs. Eagle Creek fish hatchery currently produces winter Steelhead and coho salmon that can return in great numbers some years. Another hatchery located within Milo McIver park, the Clackamas hatchery releases spring Chinook, summer Steelhead and also contributes to the rivers winter brood stock program. In recent years acclimation areas have been created in spots along the Clackamas river. It is thought that by acclimating the fish in these lower river locations they will not swim directly to the hatchery after entering the river. This should create better opportunities for anglers.

Chinook Salmon Fishing Introduction

The Chinook salmon, also known as the king salmon as well as a number of other names, is the state fish of Alaska. This powerful Pacific Ocean dweller is among the most prized of all salmon because of its large size and excellent flavor. The Chinook is blue-green or purple on the back and top of the head with silvery sides and white ventral surfaces. It has black spots on its tail and the upper half of its body. Its mouth is often dark purple. Adult fish range in size from 33 to 36 in but may be up to 58 inches in length; they average 10 to 50 pounds but may reach 130 pounds. When planning your next Chinook Salmon fishing trip visit our fishing charter directory, Chinook Salmon fishing guide or Chinook Salmon fishing charter page to link up with the right professional fishing charter to give you that memorable experience you have been dreaming about.

Chinook Salmon Fishing Locations

The Pacific Ocean and Rivers feeding from the Pacific Ocean provide some of the best Chinook Salmon Fishing in the world. Chinook salmon range from San Francisco Bay in California to north of the Bering Strait in Alaska, and the arctic waters of Canada and Russia. Populations occur in Asia as far south as the islands of Japan. The Columbia River in Oregon And Washington provides some of the largest fisheries for the Chinook Salmon. In Alaska, they are abundant from the southeastern panhandle to the Yukon River. Some Chinooks return to the fresh water one or two years earlier than their counterparts, and are referred to as “Jack” salmon. “Jack” salmon can be half the size of an adult Chinook salmon, and are usually released by sportsmen but kept by commercial fishermen.

Chinook Salmon Fishing

Chinook Salmon Fishing Seasons

In Oregon and Washington we have many different Salmon fishing seasons for many different types of Salmon. Some these buoy 10 coho and Chinook salmon fishing Guides seasons are the Famous “Buoy 10″ Salmon season at the mouth of the Columbia river which offers opportunities to fish for both coho and Chinook salmon on the Coast of Oregon and Washington at Astoria, Oregon and Ilwaco, Washington. The Spring Chinook Salmon season on the Columbia and Willamette Rivers, Rogue River and Tillamook Bay. In the Fall we have fishing for big king salmon or fall Chinook as they are known here in the Pacific Northwest on the Oregon Coast and Washington Coast at popular salmon fishing locations such as Tillamook Bay and Portland Oregon. Alaska is known for its salmon fishing, and king salmon are the largest family, with individual fish weighing in at over 100 pounds. The season for king salmon fishing is in the summer, as the fish swim back from the Pacific Ocean into the rivers to spawn. King salmon season runs from the middle of May each year. It ends on July 31 in all freshwater locations. Charter fishing trips out into the ocean near Seward catch King Salmon during the early summer as they start to migrate inland. When planning your next Chinook Salmon fishing trip visit our fishing charter directory, Chinook Salmon fishing guide or Chinook Salmon fishing charter page to link up with the right professional fishing charter to give you that memorable experience you have been dreaming about.

Chinook Salmon

Chinook Salmon Fishing Techniques

Several methods are used for salmon trolling. Downriggers are a popular method to run tackle with many variations possible. In sunny conditions increase your downrigger leads to 100 feet or more. By running long leads you work water undisturbed by noise and turbulence of the boat. Leadcore is another good choice. A weighted line with a fluorocarbon leader is attached to a planer board. The planer board is run well off to the side of the boat out of the travel path. Leadcore is graduated to allow five feet of depth for every color. Five colors will run lures approximately 25 feet down 10 colors fifty feet and so on. This allows you to fish any depth you want and is a killer for huge kings. Chinook live four and a half years and it makes sense that they will be the biggest at the end of their life cycle. These monsters will be the most aggressive and easiest to get in the months of July through September. I have produced Kings over twenty pounds in April, although this is the exception to the rule.
Lures To Use
Let’s wrap this up with my favorite lures. Magnum spoons are my first choice. Big lures for big fish with a consideration to the size of the baitfish and amount of light in the time period you are fishing. When fishing in very bright conditions or with the presence of small baitfish go to regular or small lures. Magnum spoons are about five inches long, regular four inches and small three inches. For a slow 2.0 M.P.H. or slower presentation I use the Reaper. Above 2.0 speeds the Vulcan is best, it mixes well with most big plugs and flasher flies. When planning your next Chinook Salmon fishing trip visit our fishing charter directory, Chinook Salmon fishing guide or Chinook Salmon fishing charter page to link up with the right professional fishing charter to give you that memorable experience you have been dreaming about.

Scuba Diving Introduction

Scuba diving is a form of underwater diving in which a diver uses a scuba set to breathe underwater for recreation, commercial or industrial reasons. “SCUBA” is an acronym for self contained underwater breathing apparatus and is now widely considered a word in its own right. Unlike early diving, which relied solely on air pumped from the surface, scuba divers carry their own source of breathing gas, usually compressed air. Not being attached to an air line allows scuba divers more freedom than people who snorkel or free dive. Depending on the purpose of the dive, a scuba diver usually moves underwater by swimfins attached to the feet, but external propulsion can come from an underwater vehicle or a sled pulled from the surface. Scuba diving may be performed for a number of reasons, both personal and professional. Most people begin with recreational diving, which is performed solely for enjoyment and has a number of distinct technical disciplines to increase interest underwater, such as cave diving, wreck diving, ice diving and deep diving. Many people will seek scuba diving lessons in order to obtain a scuba diving certification and move on to more professional interests.

Scuba Diving Lessons

Scuba diving lessons are a great way to learn about some of the finer points of scuba diving equipment and the hazards that exist while scuba diving. The most commonly used scuba set today is the “single-hose” open circuit 2-stage diving regulator, coupled to a single pressurized gas cylinder, with the first stage on the cylinder and the second stage at the mouthpiece. In the “single-hose” two-stage design, the first stage regulator reduces the cylinder pressure to an intermediate level. The second stage demand valve regulator, connected via a low pressure hose to the first stage, delivers the breathing gas at the correct ambient pressure to the diver’s mouth and lungs. Due to the complexity of scuba diving equipment, many dangers exist. Pressure injuries, called barotrauma, can be quite painful, in severe cases causing a ruptured eardrum or damage to the sinuses. To avoid them, the diver equalizes the pressure in all air spaces with the surrounding water pressure when changing depth. If properly equalized, the sinus passages can stand the increased pressure of the water with no problems. However, congestion due to cold, flu or allergies may impair the ability to equalize the pressure. This may result in permanent damage to the eardrum. Although there are many dangers involved in scuba diving, divers can decrease the dangers through proper training and education. Therefor scuba diving lessons are imperative and you should always consider open-water certification programs that highlight diving physiology, safe diving practices, and diving hazards.

Scuba Diving Certifications

The kind of Scuba diving certification you will need depends on the kind of scuba diving you will being doing. Recreational scuba diving does not have a centralized certifying or regulatory agency, and is mostly self regulated. There are, however, several large diving organizations that train and certify divers and dive instructors, and many diving related sales and rental outlets require proof of scuba diver certification from one of these organizations prior to selling or renting certain diving products or services. Some of the agencies that can help with your scuba diving certification needs are: British Sub Aqua Club, National Association of Underwater Instructors and the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. Make sure you are prepared with the right scuba diving certification for your next scuba diving adventure.

Scuba diving can be a complex adventure. Make sure you have the proper scuba diving lessons, scuba diving equipment and scuba diving certification for your next scuba diving adventure. Next time your already out to sea enjoying your next scuba diving adventure remember that a guided fishing charter is also a great addition to any scuba diving adventure.

Windsurfing Adventures Introduction

Windsurfing is a surface water sport that combines elements of surfing and sailing. At one time referred to as “surfing’s ginger haired cousin” by the sport’s legendary champion, Robby Naish, windsurfing has long struggled to present a coherent image of the sport to outsiders. Indeed, participants will regularly use different names to describe the sport, including sailboarding and boardsailing. Despite the term “Windsurfing” becoming the accepted name for the sport, participants are still called “sailors” or “board heads” and not “surfers”. Windsurfing is a sport which, once mastered, can be enjoyed, even at an advanced level, well into retirement and then at a more sedate level for considerably longer still. This is partly due to the fact that windsurfing crashes tend to cause less injury than those sports which take place on harder surfaces. Although, being reckless whilst windsurfing in advanced conditions can still cause serious injury or death due to the speeds and altitudes involved. Thus, the equipment you use for your particular windsurfing adventure and the location you choose for it should be chosen carefully.

Windsurfing Equipment

Most modern windsurfing equipment falls into one of several categories. These include freeride, Formula Windsurfing, wave boards, freestyle boards, slalom boards and beginner boards. Freeride boards are meant for comfortable recreational cruising (mostly straight-line sailing and occasional turning) at planing speed (aka blasting), mainly in flat waters or in light to moderate swell. Formula Windsurfing boards are shorter boards up to one meter in width, for use in Formula Windsurfing races. Wave boards are smaller, lighter, more maneuverable boards for use in breaking waves. Freestyle boards are related to wave boards in terms of maneuverability, these are wider, higher volume boards geared specifically at performing acrobatic tricks (jumps, rotations, slides, flips and loops) on flat water. Slalom boards are shortboards aimed at top speed, rather than maneuverability or ease of use. Beginner boards, sometimes called funboards often have a daggerboard and are almost as wide as Formula boards, have plenty of volume and are therefor more stable. There is also a variety of materials used to make windsurfing equipment. The original Windsurfer board had a body made out of polyethylene filled with PVC foam. Later, hollow glass-reinforced epoxy designs were used. Most boards produced today have an expanded polystyrene foam core reinforced with a composite sandwich shell, that can include carbon fiber, kevlar, or fiberglass in a matrix of epoxy and sometimes plywood and thermoplastics. Racing and wave boards are usually very light (5 to 7 kg), and are made out of carbon sandwich. Such boards are very brittle, and veneer is sometimes used to make them more shock-resistant. Boards aimed at the beginners are heavier (8 to 15 kg) and more robust, containing more fiberglass. When choosing the equipment for your next windsurfing adventure make sure to take into consideration the whether conditions at your chosen destination in order to maximize both safety and fun.

windsurfing equipment

Windsurfing Locations

The best windsurfing location for you and your windsurfing adventure will depend on your skill level, but there are several spots around the world known for amazing windsurfing. At the top of the list for windsurfing destinations is Tarifa, Spain. Tarifa is located on the Straights of Gibraltar at the southern tip of Spain. The Mediterranean and Atlantic Ocean meet there and Tarifa is commonly called the wind capitol of Europe. Windsurfing is a large part of the culture with windsurf shops dotting the moorish-style street landscape. For vacations in July and August you should seriously consider Rhodes. Being part of the Greek Dodecanese Islands, Rhodes is commonly called Isle of the Sun because it is sunny for 320 days per year. The wind conditions change from flat in the mornings to extremely strong by late afternoon. This provides windsurfers of all levels the opportunity to consistently have some time on the water. Maui is one of the eight islands of Hawaii and is also on the list of top windsurfing destinations. Windsurfers from around the world choose Maui as their best vacation destination. Whether your a serious windsurfer looking for a “sick set” or a novice in search of a great vacation and a place to fit some windsurfing in, there is a windsurfing location perfect for your particular needs.

windsurfing locations

Windsurfing adventures are a great way to relieve some stress, enjoy time with the family or compete competitively. Make sure to chose the windsurfing equipment and location that will best suit your particular needs on your next windsurfing adventure. A guided fishing charter is a great addition to any windsurfing adventure.

Ice Fishing Gear

Ice fishing is the practice of catching fish with lines and fish hooks or spears through an opening in the ice on a frozen body of water. Ice fishing can be done in many different ways. Ice anglers may sit on the stool in the open on a frozen lake, or in a heated ice fishing house or cabin on the ice, some with bunks and amenities.

Ice Fishing Equipment

Ice Fishing Locations

There are many great ice fishing locations around the world. It is a popular pastime in Canada, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, Russia and Germany. In the United States, people from northern states with lakes and long cold winters also enjoy the activity.

Ice Fishing Gear

Ice Fishing Houses

Ice fishing houses are great for the ice fishing angler who wants to stay warm. A structure with various local names, but often called an ice shanty, ice shack, fish house, shack, bobhouse, or ice hut, is sometimes used. These are dragged or trailered onto the lake using a vehicle such as a snowmobile, ATV or truck. The two most commonly used types are portable and permanent. The portable houses are often made of a heavy material that is usually water tight. The two most common types of portable houses are when your shelter flips behind the user when not needed, or a pop up shelter so the only means out is through a door. The permanent shelters are made of wood or metal and usually have wheels for easy transport. They can be as basic as a bunk heater and holes or having satellite TV, bathrooms, stoves, full size beds and may appear to be more like a mobile home than a fishing house.

Ice Fishing Houses

Ice Fishing Equipment

Having the right ice fishing gear is an important part of any ice fishing adventure. Ice fishing gear is highly specialized. First, an ice saw or auger or chisel is required to cut a circular hole or larger rectangular hole in the ice. It is recommended an 8 inch or 20 cm hole is drilled through the ice. Power augers are sometimes used. If these are not available then axes are used to chop a hole in the ice. A skimmer which is a large metal spoon with holes in it, is used to remove new ice as it forms and to clear slush left from making the hole. During colder periods most ice anglers choose to carry a heater of some type. The heater is for warmth and it also keeps an anglers fishing hole from freezing. When temperatures reach -20 °F or colder it becomes very hard to keep a fishing hole open.

Spearfishing Guides

Spearfishing is an ancient method of fishing that has been used throughout the world for thousands of years. Spearfishing gear has evolved over the years as technology has developed. Early civilizations were familiar with the custom of spearing fish from rivers and streams using sharpened sticks. Now spearfishing has progressed to become an international sport and become more popular. Today, modern spearfishing makes use of elastic powered spearguns and slings, or compressed gas pneumatic powered spearguns, to strike the hunted fish. Specialized spearfishing techniques and spearfishing equipment have been developed for various types of aquatic environments and fish.

Spearfishing

Spearfishing Gear

Spearfishing may be done using free-diving, snorkeling, or scuba diving techniques. Pole spears, or hand spears, consist of a long shaft with point at one end and an elastic loop at the other for propulsion. Wetsuits designed specifically for spearfishing are often two-piece (jacket and high waisted pants, or ‘long-john’ style pants with shoulder straps) and have camouflage patterns, blue for open ocean, green or brown for reef hunting. Camouflage will help you get the perfect spearfishing shot. Fins for freedive spearfishing are much longer than those used in SCUBA to aid in fast ascent. Having the right fins can give you the spearfishing edge your looking for. A knife should always be carried as a safety precaution in case of the diver becoming tangled in his spear or float line. Not being able to cut yourself free from an entangled line can be deadly. A buoy is usually tethered to the spearfisher’s speargun or directly to the spear. A buoy helps to subdue large fish. It can also assist in storing fish, but is more importantly used as a safety device to warn boat drivers there is diver in the area.

Spearfishing Gear

Spearfishing Techniques

Spearfishing techniques have also change over the years. Traditional spear fishing is restricted to shallow waters, but the development of the speargun allows fishing in deeper waters. The best free-diving spear fishers can hold their breath for 2 to 4 minutes, and dive to depths of 40 or even 60 meters (130 to 200 feet). However, dives of about one minute and 15 or 20 meters (50 to 70 feet) are more typical for the average spear fisher. With practice, divers are able to hold their breath for up to four minutes and sometimes longer; of course, a diver with underwater breathing equipment can dive for much longer periods.

Spearfishing Guns

Spearfishing Locations

With education and proper regulations, spearfishing can be an ecologically sustainable form of fishing. Great spearfishing locations can be found all across the world. The use of mechanically powered spearguns is outlawed in some jurisdictions. Finding the right spearfishing guide can make a big difference in your spearfishing experience. An experienced spearfishing guide will take you to the right spearfishing locations and give you the perfect shot.

Fouled Propeller – Are You Prepared?

It was early December; we were nearing our chosen anchorage, Shark River, on Florida’s west coast at the western most point of the Everglades. The seas were calm; the weather has been partly cloudy and warm all day. A nice cool cocktail on the fantail watching the sun set over the Gulf would be great. In just another hour or so we would be there.

Suddenly, thump, thump and the port engine died. What happened? A quick look down below by me produced nothing amiss. But our First Mate’s watchful eyes spied a crab trap float, suspended from a line attached to the boat.

We had been avoiding these floats all day; there were thousands on them in the gulf set by the local crabbers. But we obviously missed spotting one and now had the line and the crab pot wrapped in our prop. We were miles from civilization and we didn’t have a mask and fins, much less any dive gear. There was neither cell phone service out here nor any VHF reception. Things didn’t look good, not at all.

Could that hypothetical scenario happen to you? Think again! Most of us boaters don’t think about it often as it is rare that things like that do occur. I have made the same trip I described numerous times, praying that we could avoid those traps and we always did. But the possibility is there and it’s best to plan and be prepared for the worse.

On a calmer note, how about just checking the bottom of your boat regularly? For boaters that have larger vessels that remain in the water year round, especially in salt water, inspecting your yacht’s bottom regularly is a necessity. Yes, bottom antifoulant paints do keep marine growth such as barnacles and oysters from the bottom, but the running gear always manages to lose the paint and attract the growth. And the boat zincs, the sacrificial metal placed there to protect the remainder of the boat, they nee
1000
d checking too as they only last for 6 months or so. And of course, there is always the slime that manages to grow at the waterline.

But finding a diver isn’t always easy to do. Here in north Florida, divers are rare, pricey, and they are usually less than dependable. And you never know exactly what they did or didn’t do below either. So what’s a mariner to do?

Some time back I determined that if I wanted my trawler to have her bottom inspected as often as I liked, my best choice was to do it myself. After all, most mariners learn early on that you must become reasonably self sufficient to own a boat. It’s not that saving some cash wasn’t good, but you just can’t rely upon others to help maintain a boat.

I had seen divers go under my boat saddled with tanks and such and felt it must be cumbersome to get all that gear on and it must surely get in the way. There had to be a better way. I came across a gentleman named Dennis Parker. Dennis is a yacht owner himself and had his trawler here in Florida at one time. Dennis and his team had developed a tank less dive system that might do the trick.

His dive systems began in 1996 as an effort between several boaters, divers, research & development field engineers, mechanical engineers and manufacturing professionals. The common need was to come up with a practical system for the average boater to clean the bottom of their own boat, or do underwater inspections without expensive scuba diving outfits.

The system was born, utilizing an oil-less electric compressor to supply air to the diver without fear of carbon monoxide. A regulator, air hose and belt comes with the package. All you need to furnish is a mask, wetsuit and fins. Although the system is designed to allow divers to descend to 30 feet, most boaters will go under only about 3-4 feet.

All total, the system, wetsuit, mask, and fins the price came in at under $1000.00.

It works great. I can now clean and inspect my trawler’s bottom when I want to. A complete inspection and water line scrub only takes about 30 minutes. And if I ever do encounter that stray crab pot, I have what I need to correct the problem.

Electric Boat Trailer Winch Makes Loading Easy!

Electric boat trailer winches make loading your boat quick and easy. These electric winches are designed for easy loading and unloading of your boat. They also leave you with a free hand to guide the boat as needed. On the other hand, a hand crank requires greater strength and effort and, depending on the weight of your boat, can make loading your boat more difficult than it needs to be.

If you’re in the market for an electric boat winch, look for one that can handle the weight of your boat, including fuel and gear. Since your boat is in the water as you load, the trailer winch can handle a greater load capacity than its rated line pull capacity. The pull capacity of your winch should be at least three-quarters of the combined weight of your boat, motor, fuel, and gear. When you estimate the required load capacity of your trailer winch, keep in mind that the loading incline and other factors can also increase the load on your winch.

Even though you might be tempted to rely on your winch to secure your boat to the trailer, an electric marine winch is not designed to act as a tie-down. After loading your boat, unhook the cable from the boat and use separate tie-downs, such as racket straps, to secure your boat to the trailer.

Some electric trailer winches include a backup hand crank in case of winch failure, so even if your electric winch stops working, you can still load the boat manually.

Regularly inspect your winch line for damage or wear. Replace the cable if it shows signs of deterioration. A cable that breaks under load can lash through the air, creating a dangerous situation for anyone in its way. Some electric boat winches include a corded or wireless remote th
at allows the operator to stand clear of the winch in case of cable failure.

If you wind the cable back into the shaft when it’s not under load, keep the line taut to prevent the cable from kinking or tangling inside the winch housing. Also note that a trailer winch is not designed for use as a hoist or lift. It is only approved for horizontal pulling or for pulling on a slight incline.

do You Need Boat Shoe Repair?

Boat shoe repair can be done on most of these shoes. It used to be that this type of repair was done only locally. Today, many people simply purchase a new shoe instead of repairing the current ones that they have. Not only is it sometimes a better choice, but it is often less expensive. But, when you have a well designed shoe, one that provides for good quality and is not worn out, you can and should consider having repair done to it instead of simply throwing them out. Boat shoe repair can be found locally, through many independent companies, or you can find information about it on the web, too.

Online Shoe Repair?

Now that you can select the boat shoe repair process instead of throwing out a very good pair of shoes that simply needs a bit of help, you can move into the world of doing this on the web. A variety of different companies are available to provide not only shoe repair, but they do it on the web. There are two things to consider here:

1. You can do the repairs yourself while using the guidelines and the tutorials that are offered on the web. This is a good way to get instant results so that you can literally make the change and wear your shoe. But, the drawback of this type of repair is that it may not look as good or last as long as it could if in fact you were to have a professional do the work for you. A good professional service may be a better route to take for higher quality shoes.
2. You can send your shoes in to the shoe repair locations. Boat shoe repair, in this case, will allow you to enjoy the professional skills of your repair person. This will deliver for you a higher quality of workmanship and it will get you a very well dressed shoe. If you are not interested in doing the work yourself, don’t have the skill, the time or the tools then having a professional do the work makes sense.

Boat shoe repair can be done within a matter of days, which will depend on what you need to have done with the shoe. If you find a local shop to do the work for you, chances are good that you will have the shoe back even faster. The fact is that you need to take some time to find the type of repair person that will provide the quality and service that you need.

How To Choose A Travel Boat Cover

Not all boat covers are alike. You may think that a storage cover could pass as a travel cover, but the truth is that covers designed solely for storage may not hold up to the wear and tear of highway travel. The three main features that set trailerable marine covers apart from the pack are material thickness, tie down straps, and a secure fit.

Material Thickness

One of the first features to consider when you’re looking for a trailerable boat cover is material thickness. The wind whipping at your cover can rip it if the material is too thin. Some manufacturers will tell you that their 150 denier polyester is rugged and durable enough to use as a travel cover. This material thickness may work for storage, but trailerable covers require a thicker polyester.

A 300 denier polyester is a much more durable thickness. It is strong enough to hold up under harsh conditions but breathable enough to prevent moisture damage to your boat. You may be able to save money up front with a 150 denier cover, but 300 denier will serve you better in the long run and will outlast thinner material.

Tie Down Straps

The tie down system varies for each boat cover. Take a close look at the efficiency and protection of your tie down straps. Do they go over the top of the boat, or do they hook into eyelets or loops? Do the straps stretch? Will any metal or buckle parts come in contact with your boat?

Tie downs that wrap over the top of your boat provide secure protection without the risk of a ripped eyelet or hook. If you choose a marine cover with eyelets, make sure they are reinforced, and make sure that no metal parts come in contact with your boat. The eyelet and straps can rub against your boat and scratch
1000
it if you’re not careful.

The tie downs should have very little give. A stretchy rope or bungee cord won’t hold your cover on tight enough to secure the cover. If your straps have metal buckles, make sure that the metal does not scratch your boat’s finish. Use at least four full tie downs to secure your boat cover, and secure any loose ends that can flap wildly in the wind or get caught in tires or moving parts.

Secure Fit

As you fly down the highway, you want your cover to stay in place. An elastic hem or adjustable elastic cord will ensure that your cover provides complete protection on the road. Measure your boat to get the closest fit possible.

For most universal boat covers, you should measure your boat from bow to stern but NOT over the windshield. For beam width, measure from side to side at the widest part of the boat. Buy the cover that most closely matches the dimensions of your boat. With the elastic or adjustable hem, you can get a custom fit with a universal cover.

Currencies In Spanish Speaking Countries

Converting your money into the local currency of a Spanish-speaking country can be a major headache. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t worry – the following guide will walk you through some of the most popular local currencies, as well as how much money you should change and when and where to do it.

There are many different currencies used in Spanish-speaking countries. In some Latin American countries, such as Argentina, Chile, Columbia, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico, the peso is the normal unit of currency. It is divided into centavos, similar to the American penny, where one hundred centavos equals one peso. The conversion rate is very simple. Although exchange rates fluctuate, you can typically figure that one United States dollar is worth about 15 Mexican pesos. In Argentina, one dollar is worth about 3.5 pesos. In addition, one dollar in Columbia is worth about 2600 Columbian pesos. Of course, the conversion rates can change every day, depending on events in the respective countries and in the world, but the rates mentioned work well as general guidelines.

Beyond the peso, there are many other regional and national currencies used in the Spanish-speaking world. Currently, Spain uses the Euro, which has a conversion rate of about 1 Euro to $1.25 American dollars. You’ll find that most of Europe uses this currency, although most businesses will also accept the United States dollar if you don’t have a Euro on you.

If all of this sounds confusing, don’t worry – there are several places where you can check the currency conversion rates before you visit a Spanish-speaking country. There are many websites, such as www.XE.com, that will convert your dollars into the country’s currency, so you have an idea of how much your United States dollar will be worth. You bank or fin
1000
ancial institution will also be able to help, or you can check one of the many major television news stations that report on conversion rates for many countries.

When you’re planning a trip to a Spanish-speaking country, you might wonder if you should convert your money before leaving or after you arrive in your destination. There are a couple of ways to look at it. You can convert your money here for convenience; however, you may find that there are better conversion rates in the country you are heading to. If you decide to convert once you arrive, there may be additional fees that apply – especially if you are using traveler’s checks or credit cards. The best thing to do is contact the hotel where you’ll be staying and ask them what the conversion rate is at the hotel and whether or not they charge additional fees. This will give you a good idea of whether to convert your money beforehand or not. Whatever you do, avoid converting your cash at the airport, as this is usually the most expensive place to do so.

If you’re wondering about how much currency you should exchange, consider your expenses. Plan to convert enough to cover your stay, plus a little extra – just in case. You may want to use the hotel safe for your extra cash and other valuables, such as your passport, to avoid any chance of theft. You’ll need to carry some of the country’s currency on you if you plan to shop locally, especially in poorer countries. You may also want to carry traveler’s checks for part of the amount, since they can be reissued or reimbursed if they’re stolen.
